The TDCI Engine

The term TDCi stands for “Turbo Diesel Common Rail Injection” and references the type of diesel injection method used. A common rail engine runs at pressures up to 2,000 bar (29,400 PSI) and can inject up to 7 times per cycle per cylinder. The fuel is delivered to all injectors by one fuel rail “Common rail” and is electronically controlled for upmost precision of injection timing. The modern common rail diesel engine can inject up to 7 times per cycle and has been the key to current refinement and economy standards.

The introduction of modular engines and the huge leap forward in electronic control has meant that a TDCi remap can exploit the potential in your engine whilst staying within factory tolerances. Manufacturers use this same technique to vary the output of engines that they provide you with to save on costs and maximise profits.

2012> Ford Transit Custom runs a Siemens SID208 engine management system and comes in 100bhp, 125bhp, 140bhp and 155bhp formats. They all share the same basic engine block which has a maximum factory torque output of 284lbft… They all have 100% mechanically identical engines with the only variance being the software. They run the same injectors and turbo systems throughout these variants and as such we can take the 100bhp up to a factory 155bhp without going outside factory tolerances and up to 187bhp with our Fast Road TDCI Remap software.
