Remap of Automatic Ford Transit motorcaravan, 14 Oct 2008.
Experience to date has been highly satisfactory and overall power increase has given us a more comfortable and quieter cruising speed - almost as if the mixture were cleaner burning.
The engine and automatic gearbox now seem better matched with a noticeable reduction in the fussy, and often unnecessary, downward changes. Overall, gear changing also seems a lot smoother. The change down into first gear, which occurred when trying to perform a rolling start in second gear into a roundabout or turning from a side road, no longer occurs. Now the move off and subsequent acceleration in second gear has made these moves safer. I feel the torque increase is noticeable lower down yet the low speed control is retained , while retaining second gear in slow traffic. This should be interesting on slippery camp sites.
Overtaking from cruising speeds is better from 60 mph, again without experiencing change down by the box. Response is instant and acceleration clean. To date I have had no need to exceed 80 mph but it got there satisfyingly quickly.
Hill-climbing is bordering on the entertaining as the power curve allows the engine to stay in a higher gear or let me indulge in a little white van mischief by putting the boot in- I like it!
Fuel consumption figures so far are for purely local Cornish hills, but appear improved enough to give us similar mileages to that previously obtained on the motor way. The London run should be interesting.
In all, a great improvement to our motor caravan , good value for money and I would not hesitate to recommend it to other motor-home users.
HAVE AN AUTOMATIC?
Alongside the engine control unit (ECU) we are also able to provide transmission control unit (TCU) software to help further enhance your vehicle. There is a lot of limitation built into modern gearbox software to help hold back the power gains you are trying to achieve from your engine, our gearbox software overcomes this and helps transform the way the car drives. Some of the modifications include raising maximum torque limiters, faster gear shift speeds, increased clamping pressures to prevent clutch wear, increased engine RPM limiters and much more…
